The First Day of Winter!

I, for one, cannot believe today is the first day of Winter. Although, it has felt a bit like Winter for the last few weeks, it's a strange thought, because it also means I've got five months left of my school year! I think Winter is one of my favourite seasons when it comes to clothing - I can snuggled in my furs, or in my incredibly brilliant coats and capes, and I just adore stockings.

Today has been a rather eventful day; I've chosen my Monologue for my final assessment for Theatre Studies (I'll be doing The Importance of Being Earnest - as Lady Bracknell; a role I think I'll do very, very well), and I've already started to design my costume for the Mono itself; something brilliant and 19th Century - I'll be sure to upload the details once I've got proper sketches going.

As it is the first day of Winter, I've created a bit of a mood board for the season! Enjoy!

I'm definitely looking forward to being able to wear fur out again; I usually get a lot of filthy looks, however fur (faux or not) seems to be coming back into style, so I do feel a little more safe about it. A while back, a lady went to spill her glass of red wine on my late 30s cape - thankfully I noticed and well, she wasted a perfectly good glass of wine, and I went into a very long rant about how much of a moron she is! Hmm.

I've been highly considering dying my hair dark red again; I'm not really that big a fan of having brown hair, and although there is a lot of natural red in my hair anyway, I do miss it. Along with this, I also absolutely adore The Gardens of Whimsy - and am longing to get my hands on that gorgeous flower clip.

My immune system is absolutely horrific; I can count on one hand, the amount of days I've felt great this year - so, to keep from the cold, I'll be getting out all my ruffle collars, and stick to wearing them with pastels or whites. Whilst I'm definitely more of a super rich in colour kind of girl; I find that pastels is just a lot better with ruffles.

Clemence Poesy is one quite possibly my no.1 style icon; I adore everything she wears, but one of my favourite items she has worn is a stunning black cape; I find that capes are the biggest essential for any girls Winter Wardrobe; in both black and red.

I know that this Winter is going to be filled with many, many books, and cuddling up with kitties in front of the heater, listening to Mozart, and probably a lot of sewing. It should be an exciting three months! As well s the first day of Winter, today is Friday Week till I've been with my partner for two years! It's all very, very exciting; except I'm still trying to decide what to wear!

There's a storm coming, Mr. Wayne.

If you didn't know, you now know that I'm a photography student (although, not really - I just take photos and make them look pretty via Photoshop), and my theme for this year has been Taking off the masks of Superheroes and Villains. The theme itself is actually kind of complicated to explain, but I'm essentially displaying the human side of DC characters, through my own interpretation of their personalities and vulnerabilities. It's pretentious - I know.

Although I have done many, many shoots, I thought I would share my personal favourite; Selina Kyle/Catwoman. Not only is it my favourite in the way I've edited it, but it's my favourite because of the ideas expressed behind the shoot itself. Catwoman is my favourite DC character - on the same level as Harley Quinn,  and although I'm not some amazingly sexy thief, on a lot of levels I do feel some kind of connected to Selina; it's more than just a passion for cats and dedicating more than enough time to help them, but there's just something there that I feel comfort with. And besides, who wouldn't want to be an anti-hero?
This shoot was really to display Selina after stealing a few pretty things, and that, once she's in the comfort of her own home in the hell that is Arkham City, she's more than willing to just let her gorgeous kitties play with she stole, because nothing matters to her more than her cats.

The Cottingley Fairies

A tweet from Megan McMinn of Briar Rose has completely inspired this post, which is one of my favourite series of photographs, and quite possibly the most appealing prank of all time; The Cottingley Fairies. In 1917, Elsie Wright and Frances Griffith took photos of themselves with the supposed Cottingley Fairies; of which were cutouts from a popular children's book at the time.  The images that the girls took confused a massive audience. Some believed the images as genuine, whilst others refused that the images were real, although there was no proof of the use of a double exposure, or some kind of alteration to the negatives.

I personally think these two girls are absolutely genius! I'm actually highly considering going out and doing a shoot like this, simply for the sake of it. Really though, it took 70 years for the entire case to be solved; when the girls confessed that the fairies were indeed cutouts, and their effort in taking the photos is really quite admirable; especially for 1917.

It might just be me, but I absolutely adore both girls hair and what they're wearing on their heads; the flower wreaths are absolutely adorable, as well as the cloche Elsie can be seen wearing in the first image. What they're wearing is is generally inspiring; early 20th Century fashion is so gorgeous - well, anything up to the late 1950s is!

And, just a quick image in the mix, take a look at Elsie aged 15, and how lovely her hair is!
